- Abstract
The Massawa Corridor is not currently functional as a trade route between Eritrea and Ethiopia due to the unclear status of the borders. Prior to the 1998 conflict and subsequent closing of the borders, both countries enjoyed what was essentially a common market. Cross-border trade flowed freely, with neither tariff nor non-tariff barriers.
