All the countries of the IGAD region recognize the potential of irrigation as a means to substantially raise agricultural productivity and improve their food security situations. Yields from irrigated agriculture can be higher than non-irrigated agriculture by a factor of three or more times. This has been demonstrated in Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan.
